Bengreen (/bengreen/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Small Town located in Silverbay Dutchy, Loqulate Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name Bengreen is derived from the Sylvin language, as Bengreen was founded by Ni̊ Keate, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Bengreen has a yearly average temperature of 20°C (68°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a pleasant 25°C (77°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 15°C (59°F). Bengreen receives an average of 137 cm/y (53 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Bengreen covers an area of nearly 3 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 4886 m (16030 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Bengreen was founded durring the early 14th century in summer of the year 1308, by Ni̊ Keate. The establishment of Bengreen was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding Bengreen's construction back out of the project. Ni̊ Keate pushed on reguardles, and Bengreen was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

Bengreen was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Bengreen is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature masoned stone construction which prominantly features pointed arches, pointed ribbed vault cielings, flying buttress', and window tracery all of which share a simmilar gemoetetic patern halfway between organic and inorganic in design formaing a very distinct aesthetically integrated style. BUildings tend to reach for the havens, and more expencive homes are easily identified by their floor count as well as the addition of decorative features intigrated into the building's design such as statues, gargoyals, and embelished joinery.

Bengreen is buildings have been located at convienant points along the cliff Bengreen was built upon. Navigating the town is therefore a little chalanging as the distance between buildings verris greatly and the restrictive flagstone streets flow where they are able to be made rather than folowing the most convienant paths. The town posesses a fortified albit thin wall of querried stone. This wall posesses most of the features of a castle wall, though it is constructed from cheeper inferior stone. It would pose a minor chalange for an attacking army, though it's clear the wall's true purpose is to crush the hopes of bandits and marauders. Unfortuantly, these failry decent fortifications are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.

A quick look in any direction shows Bengreen is filled with vices. There are many taverns, brothels are advertising their services on the streets, cardsharks are plying their illicit trade within public squairs, and every shop has at least three signs advertising various sales on goods. That alone wouldn’t be too noticeable, if it wasn’t just so omnipresent and overwhelmingly how the people of this town live.

Civic Infrastructure

Bengreen has an animal control department which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the control, impoundment, and disposition of animals.

Bengreen has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Bengreen.

Bengreen has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Bengreen has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Bengreen's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Bengreen has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Bengreen has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Bengreen has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Bengreen's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by dynamic designs and complex architectural plan forms; intended to heighten feelings of motion and sensuality, and frequently based on the oval. It made extensive and extreme use of: Grandeur, Contrast, Curves and twists, Rich surface treatments, Gilded statuary, Bright colors, Vividly painted ceilings, Fragmented or deliberately incomplete elements, Large-scale frescoes, Dramatic central projections on an external facade, the use of plaster, stucco, or marble finishing, Illusory effects such as trompe l’oeil, and pear-shaped domes. While beloved by the nobility, the common folk tended to despise the style due to the massive consumption of resources required for even a small building constructed in this style.

In Bengreen snow is warm to the touch and does not melt within city limits. Also it only happens during summer.

The Bonewrought Willow near Bengreen are known to be a mutant strain of the creature.

Bengreen's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves reenactments to channel Augury energies of tier 2 via oratory performances.

Economy

History

Bengreen used to be more prosperous, but something happened relatively long ago that left it a shrunken shadow of its former self. If the settlement is prosperous, the locals often lament how much more they could have had. If the settlement is not prosperous, the locals blame their ill fortunes on that event. Reminders of this better time can be found in many places within Bengreen.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century a local hero by the name of solved a major long term problem plaguing the town. A small order of knights was founded in 's honor, and bears his name to this day.
